Dear TLC friend,

First of all a BIG THANK YOU for your support over the last two years and for making the Centre such a great success.

We have been very busy developing new programmes and getting new contracts with local businesses and we are now preparing for a well-deserved break!
During July and August, our office will be closed Thursdays and Fridays.

The library will be opened during office hours Monday to Wednesday.

You will find in this newsletter exciting news about The Language Centre and some of our future plans.

  1. Autumn Programme

Get £10 off your next October Course!

If you have attended one of our courses in the last 12 months, we are offering you a £5 discount to thank you for coming back and an extra £5 if you enrol before the 15th of August.

You will find on our website the timetable for our very popular September revision courses and our main October programme.

We have new advanced courses and new languages on offer- Catalan, Farsi, Korean and Swedish.

The ESOL courses will also resume in September. This will include courses to prepare for examinations in collaboration with Trinity College London in Newcastle.

  1. Summer Activities

Although classes are officially finished, the French Advanced group will continue to meet on Thursdays 10:30-12:30 in Old Eldon Square until the end of July and everyone is welcome to join…for free!

  • The French Café will still run over the summer albeit with a small group of francophones and francophiles. It takes place every Tuesday from 17:00 to 19:00 at Café de Vie on Saville Row, Newcastle. All levels welcome and it’s free.
  • We will also show films during the day over the summer in our Old Eldon Square premises- check the website regularly for more information. The first film will be in French with subtitles on Wednesday 29th of July at 11:30 (check website or Facebook for programme)
  1. Website development

We are continuing to revamp our website and we will be adding some new features over the summer. You will discover our blogs and interesting articles on a variety of topics including cultural events in our region. You should also find it much easier to navigate.

  1. Expansion of TLC

We have taken over the two rooms next to our Old Eldon Square office. Works on the premises will be take place over the summer and we are aiming to create a welcoming space for you to use during or before classes. We will use these rooms for daytime language and cinema clubs and hire them out to other community organisations or individuals (contact us for more details if you need a meeting room)

  1. Community Project

From September we will be offering ESOL courses and taster courses in 5 languages in Sunderland. This is a project run in collaboration with ICOS (International Community Organisation of Sunderland) thanks to some funding secured from The Linden Foundation.
